Ce carburant de plus en plus pris\u00e9 par la marine marchande fait l\u2019objet de toutes les pr\u00e9cautions, car toute fuite conduirait au drame.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Les risques de fuites de gaz liqu\u00e9fi\u00e9 sur les m\u00e9thaniers<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le GNL est un <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/qCzVLPiyC1M\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gaz liqu\u00e9fi\u00e9<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00e0 -163\u00a0\u00b0C. Il voyage dans les cuves des m\u00e9thaniers pour traverser la plan\u00e8te. En cas de fuite, il s\u2019\u00e9vaporerait, entrerait en contact avec l\u2019air et deviendrait hautement inflammable, ce qui exposerait le navire au risque d\u2019explosion. Une fuite interne serait tout aussi dangereuse, car elle asphyxierait les marins.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enfin, toute fuite de gaz liqu\u00e9fi\u00e9 dans l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re est jug\u00e9e comme extr\u00eamement polluante, car le GNL est principalement compos\u00e9 de m\u00e9thane, consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme plus nocif que le CO<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>L\u2019augmentation du trafic des m\u00e9thaniers<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On estime actuellement \u00e0 500 le nombre de m\u00e9thaniers qui parcourent les oc\u00e9ans. Ce chiffre devrait consid\u00e9rablement augmenter, car le gaz naturel liqu\u00e9fi\u00e9 a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9sign\u00e9 pour remplacer le fuel lourd en tant que carburant. Si l\u2019on fait abstraction des risques de fuite, le GNL pr\u00e9sente de nombreux avantages pour l\u2019environnement. Il permet de r\u00e9duire de fa\u00e7on drastique les oxydes de soufre (SOx), les particules fines et les oxydes d\u2019azote (NOx).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Les armateurs sont particuli\u00e8rement int\u00e9ress\u00e9s par le passage au gaz liqu\u00e9fi\u00e9 pour alimenter les moteurs de leurs porte-conteneurs, paquebots et ferries. \u00c0 la fin de l\u2019ann\u00e9e\u00a02020, 704\u00a0navires \u00e9taient d\u00e9j\u00e0 pass\u00e9s au gaz liqu\u00e9fi\u00e9 et il semblerait que la transition s\u2019acc\u00e9l\u00e8re.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>L\u2019\u00e9tanch\u00e9it\u00e9 des cuves des m\u00e9thaniers<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Il \u00e9tait avant habituel d\u2019utiliser des cuves sph\u00e9riques ou des cuves \u00e0 membranes. Aujourd\u2019hui, les premi\u00e8res ont tendance \u00e0 dispara\u00eetre au profit des secondes. Les cuves \u00e0 membranes pr\u00e9sentent l\u2019avantage d\u2019\u00eatre plus l\u00e9g\u00e8res. D\u2019une contenance allant de 1\u00a0000\u00a0m\u00b3 \u00e0 20\u00a0000\u00a0m\u00b3, elles sont aussi plus adaptables aux formes et aux volumes des coques. Enfin, elles limitent les taux d\u2019\u00e9vaporation des soutes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Les parois des cuves sont constitu\u00e9es de doubles parois, comme une bouteille thermos. Les exigences de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 \u00e0 bord des navires sont naturellement extr\u00eames. \u00c0 terre comme en mer, les techniciens charg\u00e9s de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 sont form\u00e9s pour effectuer des <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.fr\/conseils-de-pro\/soudage-et-brasage\/la-solidite-dune-soudure\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">soudures<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> sp\u00e9cifiques. Leur travail est en plus compliqu\u00e9 par le syst\u00e8me d\u2019\u00e9tanch\u00e9it\u00e9 et d\u2019isolation thermique des cuves\u00a0: celle-ci est assur\u00e9e par une double barri\u00e8re sous ambiance d\u2019azote gazeux destin\u00e9e \u00e0 emp\u00eacher toute r\u00e9action avec l\u2019oxyg\u00e8ne atmosph\u00e9rique.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La cuve de GNL poss\u00e8de une premi\u00e8re membrane qui constitue la paroi interne. Elle est r\u00e9alis\u00e9e en acier inoxydable gaufr\u00e9, ce qui cr\u00e9e un espace dit \u00ab\u00a0primaire\u00a0\u00bb structur\u00e9 avec des caissons de mousses de polyur\u00e9thane et sous ambiance d\u2019azote en l\u00e9g\u00e8re surpression. La seconde membrane constitue la membrane externe de la cuve. Elle est fabriqu\u00e9e dans une mati\u00e8re composite et recouverte d\u2019un isolant thermique qui offre une garantie suppl\u00e9mentaire pour l\u2019\u00e9tanch\u00e9it\u00e9 de la cuve.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>La fragilit\u00e9 de la membrane int\u00e9rieure<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La membrane int\u00e9rieure de la cuve est compos\u00e9e d\u2019Invar, un alliage de fer et de nickel dont la propri\u00e9t\u00e9 principale est d\u2019avoir un coefficient de dilatation tr\u00e8s faible. L\u2019invar est d\u2019une grande sensibilit\u00e9. En contact avec la peau humaine ou de la sueur, il rouille instantan\u00e9ment. Les ouvriers charg\u00e9s des soudures pour constituer la cuve sont donc prot\u00e9g\u00e9s des pieds \u00e0 la t\u00eate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0L\u2019\u00e9paisseur de la membrane int\u00e9rieure de la cuve d\u2019un m\u00e9thanier n\u2019est que de 0,7 mm. La profondeur de soudure id\u00e9ale doit \u00eatre de 0,5 mm. Sur un gros m\u00e9thanier, la fabrication de la cuve peut n\u00e9cessiter jusqu\u2019\u00e0 140 km de soudure.
